We specialize in growing Nopal, aka Prickly Pear cactus. It’s a delicious desert crop.

Our favorite way to cook nopalitos is very simple! First you scrape off the glaucids from 3-4 pads of nopal with a veggie peeler or the edge of a sharp knife. Then chop it into 1/2 – 3/4 inch squares. Toss with oil and a pinch of salt (optional to add 1 clove of garlic). Place on a baking sheet in a thin layer with a little bit of space between the pieces. Bake at 375 for about 30 minutes, flipping once halfway through. Cook until the edges are crispy brown and the mucilage has evaporated.
This method is super tasty! One of our kids loves the crispier nuggets and the other like the softer ones.
We have nopal available for pick up in the Tucson area. The current price is $3/lb.
